A whole lotta shakin' goin' on

What an experience!
[this is good]
That's crazy! When I was a pre-teen we had a small earthquake tremor. At the time we lived directly in front of train tracks, and it felt exactly like a train was going by.
i always wanted to experience an earthquake (a mild one of course) just to see what it feels like. what was pepper doing - hiding? or didn't seem to care?

i heard that the quake was felt through several states.

Yes, the epicenter was in southeastern Illinois, and I've heard it was felt as far north as Chicago and as far south as Georgia. My friends in northern Indiana and in Kentucky all felt it.

I have no idea where Pepper was or what she was doing. I just looked down at the end of the bed where she usually is, and she was gone. I wish I knew whether it affected her at all! She certainly wasn't acting any differently last night ...

There's this lady at work who drinks tea until she just can't hold it anymore and then she RUNS to the bathroom. I work on the 4th floor, so the floor shakes every time she speeds by. I thought I felt her run by about 3-1/2 hours ago, but MSNBC just confirmed that I actually felt a 2.5-magnitude aftershock. I wonder how this lady would feel about me thinking a tremor was just her running??
Yes, we felt it too! And I said the same thing, "Aren't the dogs supposed to have a sixth sense and warn us??!" It was exciting.
Scary! How far from it are you? It seems like it reverberated everywhere; I'm kind of surprised we didn't feel it here.

Hee, I agree that it was very exciting! But it cracked me up how the morning news shows were all preempted for special quake coverage ... most of which consisted of people calling or e-mailing to say "I felt it!" or "I didn't feel it!" This quake, along with the "UFO" sighting in Kokomo a couple of days ago, is really giving the news outlets a workout. :)

Oh, and now we know for the next time: Don't rely on the animals.

Wait, I just found out that the aftershock was a 4.6, not 2.5. Whoa!
I think we are 200 miles from the epicenter? So yeah, you could feel it a long way away. :)
I was watching TV at the time. There was a fairly loud pop sound from somewhere in the house. The pop was followed by a low rumble like that of a jet airliner passing over the house, but it wasn't overhead. The rumble increased for about 15 seconds before the shaking started. The shaking lasted for maybe 8 seconds rattling a few things and causing the house to creak. Then it was over. No damage has been found yet, and I really don't expect to find much. (from west of Indy a few miles)
I know! Indiana is supposed to be boring! We woke up, and while checking things out downstairs (like we'd be able to see anything in the dark- duh!), my husband commented that he'd thought it had been our younger son shaking our bed. Yeah, okay-- like a six year-old could shake the whole room. My husband: the genius...
